Meet the Authors Part 11

Morggy
Nomination
The Following Nominations are for the Fan Fiction
“Offshore”
The Nan Flanagan Award      Best Villainess in a Fanfic
This award is for a fanfic that has the best villainess (female villain).  Character can be canon or original character.
The Preston Pardloe Award     Best Mystery Fanfic
Any size fanfic that has a well written mystery plot.

The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
As soon as I started reading the impulse to write began. I loved stories and fiction and I would spend many hours daydreaming my own stories with my own characters and that’s what started it. I think I have been “writing” since I was in my teens (I’m 31 now). Nothing I would show anyone at that time (or now even) but it helped me practice and find my style and everything. It was fun.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
It depends. There are stories I plan and stories I just let happen (including here unpublished things). The ones I do have sort of outlines for don’t necessarily pan out like I first envisioned them. But I think ultimately, no matter what happened in the course of the story, when I plan something, I do get my characters where I wanted them to be when I started writing – the manner in which they get there, however, might surprise even me!
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Sookie and Eric obviously! I have a TB bias though – I like them especially how they’re written for the show and at present I have some reserves about the path the books have taken (butter spread too thin, I guess?). The why is a bit cliché. They’re loyal, they’re fierce and they love – what’s not to like?
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
I wouldn’t know at this point! If you’re referring to this fandom only, it was probably something by Sleepy Lotus.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
I honestly can’t think of anything!

The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
Reading inspired me to write, and I ended up spending a good part of my career doing technical writing. I didn’t even know about fanfiction until I met a lovely community of women through watching True Blood and then reading the SVM books. Then I found fanfiction and realized I had some stories to tell about these characters too.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I’m more of a plotter than a pantser, although I like to leave the door open for the characters to steer me in other directions. Being open to other ideas and not being too rigid to the plot is one of my favorite parts of writing but I do have to have some idea of the overall story arc. Most of the time, I know how things will end up, and I’ve been known to write in reverse (ending first and working back to the beginning.)
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
I have to say it was Sookie that made me love SVM and then Eric cemented that for me. I love her spunky, no-nonsense, helpful personality and I love his practical side. They make a great pair and balance each other out quite well.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
I don’t remember the name of it. It was so long ago. I do remember it was a Bill story. Might have even been during the first season of TB before I read the books.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Why do you like to write collaboratively?
Writing with a partner satisfies two things for me. I get to talk about the books and characters in depth with someone who loves them as much as I do, and the plot ideas often go in directions I hadn’t thought about. So it’s a win-win situation. I like to write both solo and collaboratively.

The Lorena Ball Award     Best Oh My God Sex Scene Fanfic
This award is for a fanfic that has at least one sex scene that made you say "Oh My God"
The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
  • I’ve been writing since I was old enough to tell a story. I think I started to get serious about it when I was in my early teens because it was a better way of coping with stress and life than by doing a lot of the stupid things teenagers do to cope. Writing is like therapy for me and I’ve been doing it ever since I discovered that I could.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
· I wish I was a little more organized when it comes to plotting and that I could sit down and write an outline for the entire project but that’s just not my style. I can plan in stages but sometimes the story presents me with opportunities and the characters take over, outline be damned. Sometimes I feel like writing with an outline has a way of making a story feel too contrived or forced. I want what I write to feel organic so when little surprises spring up that I didn’t count on I’m always a little weary of them, but usually they end up being good surprises that take me in directions I didn’t know I was going to go when I started. I very rarely know how a story is going to end when I start it. Usually I don’t know the ending until a story is close to being finished and I like not knowing where it’s going to end up.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
· My favorite SVM character would have to be Eric, and not because of his Viking sex god reputation. I think it’s fascinating to have a character with so much untapped potential. If she wanted to, Charlaine Harris could make a fortune writing a series just about this character alone. He’s got more than a thousand years of history in his head. That’s a lot of memories and a lot of whacky vampire hijinx to get into. What we know about Eric is very basic in a lot of ways and there is plenty of room to expand on his character. It’s a little sad that it hasn’t happened, but I suppose that’s what good fanfiction is for.
· I liked Sophie-Anne in the books. While she did send Bill to try and capture Sookie for her, there was something that was also rational and likeable about her. She didn’t have the attitude of a spoiled child like she did on the show. In the books she seemed to genuinely care about Hadley. The book version of her was much more sensible and pragmatic, even if she was also a sneaky bitch I wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.
· Pam is my favorite True Blood character, most of the time because she has no problem saying exactly what she thinks and doesn’t seem to give a single care about whether or not she’s being inappropriate, rude or offensive. I admire people that speak their mind.
· I’ve also really come around where Jason is concerned. He may never be the brightest star in the heavens, but he’s trying to be a better person and I admire that, too. On top of that, Jason is one of those characters where when he’s right, he’s so right it’s scary. It doesn’t happen too often but when he hits the nail on the head it really makes you stop and think.
· I’m also a big fan of Jessica. I think she’s a brilliant addition to the family, so to speak. She’s staring down immortality and trying to balance all of his perceived freedom with a vampire society that has its rules and procedures. Additionally, she’s got this nightmare of a maker that has tried to get rid of her essentially every chance he gets and I wonder if that’s better or worse than the abusive father she had as a human.
  • In this past season I really loved the budding relationship between Russell and Steve Newlin, if only for the sheer comedy of it. I’m curious to see what will become of Newlin this year and I really, really want to know who turned him. I loved Russell as well but all good things must come to an end, so it was time for him to meet the true death… even though I will definitely miss his one-liners.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
  • I don’t remember what the first one was I read ever because I was reading One Tree Hill fanfiction before I got into SVM, but the first one I read for this fandom was greenlemons’ “I Love You, But I’ve Chosen Darkness”. It’s a great canon fic that I still recommend to newbies that ask me for those types of stories. I think the first all human story I got into was Missus T’s “Halo Effect.”
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
If you could get into another writer’s head and steal a plot idea from them, whose head would you get into?
· It’s a tie for me. I love Missy Dee for the realism she puts into a lot of her stories. She’s not afraid of taboo type subjects and she writes it all very well. I would also love to have kjwrit’s gift for writing comedy. The best part about it is that it’s not forced. I have millions of text messages to back that up. She’s a very funny person and it really comes through in her writing. My sense of humor doesn’t translate quite so well or maybe I just don’t have that voice. Whatever the reason, I admire her ability.

Meet the Authors Part 8

CarolinaGirl 96
The Alcide Herveaux Award     Best Were Fanfic
Any size fanfic that has Weres as the main characters.
Howl at the Moon”

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I got inspired by reading fan fiction initially. Then I went through a very trying time in my life and writing helped me to deal with some of that. I posted my first story in July 2009. I’ve been writing ever since, when I can find time.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
Yes, I usually know how I want a story to end, but getting there isn’t usually planned out. This makes continuity really hard, which I just discovered again today after I posted my most recent chapter. I had to go back to the chapter before it and make a few changes. Ugh! Once I finish my current story, I will do things a little differently with my next one for sure. :)
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Of course my favorite character is Eric. He is a very complex character and has so much depth. I loved watching him fall in love with Sookie, and vice versa, in the early books. They are just so stubborn. I haven’t read the last couple of books and am worried about what ending we are going to get with the last one. I liked Pam in the books, but adore her on TB! I wish I could be as unapologetically honest as she is sometimes. I love her sarcasm too. I love Lafayette. I was so glad when he was kept on the show. I also like Alcide. Not so much in the books, but on the show. In my current story, I wondered what could’ve happened between him and Sookie without all the baggage they both had in the books and show.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
The first fan fiction I read was ‘Let Love In’ by Terri Botta. I absolutely loved it and all of the sequels/side stories that go along with it.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Wow… this is really tough. I haven’t been asked very much, so it’s pretty open. Lol I’ll answer most questions, as long as it doesn’t give too much away

The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I was a TB fan and used to go onto the TrueBlood Wiki. Of course, they have a lot of good stories, and some of them are linked to Fanfiction, and that’s how I got into it. I read a lot before a small plot bunny started hopping around in my head, and I very cautiously put Happy Anniversary out there to see what the response was. This was in November 2010, so just over two years ago. I’d never written anything before in my life (as you can tell from HA - it’s pretty rough round the edges).
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
It’s pretty much made up as I go along, which is a real headache when trying to keep track of continuity. Sometimes it’s just a really strong visual in my head which I write towards. Bizarrely (or possibly very revealingly) the first scene that occurred to me for Immortal Beloved was Sookie and Pam’s meeting with Ocella. The rest of the story grew towards and then away from that point.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Hello? Have you met me? I’m All About Eric and always will be. Reasons? How long have you got…
Mind you, I’m also very fond of La-la, because he’s such an honest character. He doesn’t attempt to hide who or what he is, and I admire that.
And, of course, everybody loves Pam.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Not sure I can remember the very first, but I know Pour Some Sugar On Me was one of the early ones, and it impressed me mightily.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
I would like to be asked “would you like a publishing deal, which would involve vast amounts of money, and would include a film, the hero to be played by Alexander Skarsgard, with whom you would be expected to have many long, private meetings?”
Answer) “Yes.” (a girl can dream *sigh*)

Meet the Authors Part 6

Kleannhouse
Nomination
The Baby Jessica Award  Best Fanfic for a New Author

“OHHH for the Love of Zombies”
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8136947/1/OHHH-for-the-Love-of-Zombies
The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I started writing on a whim, I was asked to participate in a Fic Exchange where we were given a prompt to follow and my story evolved from there. So the writing started then, so a little over a year now. I wrote when I was younger but nothing like this. It was usually just the writing down of my dreams and expanding on them... I have always had a wild imagination so I think that helps me out a bit plus I love to throw in real life themes as you can see in my stories.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
For “OOHH for the Love of Zombies”, it started as a One shot and ended up 7 chapters. I had an outline and followed it but made it up as I went along, it just kept getting bigger and bigger; I was so afraid people would hate it, I am my own worst critic. I do plan on having a sequel; however the story was ended in such a way that the sequel is not needed but asked for by the followers so I am putting one together for them.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
My all time favorite characters from SVM are Eric and Sookie but from TB, Lafayette and Eric. Why you say, hmm, in the books Eric and Sookie always had a love hate relationship and I have watched it grow and fell in love with the characters as they have falling in love with each other, as for how they are now toward the end of the series, I don’t like either of them very much because they are both very stubborn people and that will be their downfall (I am very stubborn too, I do see their points but compromise is in neither of their vocabularies)… we will have to see what Charlaine Harris gives us in the final book. As for TB, Eric is a favorite of mine, he has so many facets of his character that I forget sometimes he is Vampire. He can be your friend or your foe and he is not bad to look at (sigh). As for Lafayette, I love him, all of his flamboyant self. He is a character and is a person who doesn’t care about what others think of him... He is strong willed and self aware, he doesn’t need other people to survive and for that very character trait he will preserver above all others.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
My first fanfic story was Teri Botta’s “Let Love In”. It is a classic and it got me started in the fanfic world.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Hmmm, I really don’t know… I guess it would be, “why do I continue to write when a bad review comes my way?” I believe in free speech and that includes the writing of my stories, which in all intents and purposes is My Story not the nasty reviewer.... I may have not been the originator of the character but the stories I write come from my heart. I research a lot of what I write about, I want to be as factual as possible… Real Life stories are a favorite of mine so I guess that’s why they are easier to write then the supernatural side of the canon. The all human aspect makes it easier to say what I need to say. Not saying that I would ever not write the supernatural side but for now AH is where I am writing. The funny thing is I have 8 outlines of new stories to be written with all human content. But when a review comes through bashing my story and its content or direction it is heading it makes me believe I have not done my job right. I know other writers have the same issue and we continue on, but it still rocks you to your very core that maybe you are terrible at what you do. I know everyone has their own opinion and critiques are always welcome but blatant bashing or nastiness is not. I write my stories as an extension of myself and I wield and guide them in a way for all readers to enjoy; I am not one for instant gratification of my characters (HEA) but they get there sooner or later… Sometimes much later if you are reading “If Dreams Come True” you will understand; I am called a tease more times than not and it makes me chuckle knowing I am doing my job right. If that makes any sense?
Thanks for talking with me Hugs and My Best Kristie

Meet the Authors Part 5

Nominations
The following nominations are for the fan fiction
DayWOman
The Baby Jessica Award    Best Fanfic for a New Author
This award is for a fanfic from a first time author who has posted their first story after 1st of January 2012.
The Charles Twining Award     Best Action Fanfic
Any size fanfic that has at least one well written action scene.
The Interview

1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I started writing immediately following Super Bowl XLVI (February 5,, 2012). I was devastated after another loss by my beloved Patriots, so I started writing to ease the pain and distract me from football during the offseason. As far as inspiration, the beginning of DayWOman was spawned from my job. I’m a recruiter, so having Sookie find and interview for a job was something very familiar and easy for me to write.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
When I first started, I was making it up as I went. For my very early readers, they might have noticed that I had categorized DayWOman as Friendship. I was aiming for a very slow burn with Eric and Sookie, but the Viking muse in my head wasn’t happy with that and it turned into a full-fledged romance fairly quickly. After that, a lot of things clicked into place and I had more direction and structure. Timeline became very important to me after a while and I aimed for certain events to happen on specific days. It was very exciting to get to post a chapter set on New Year’s Day actually on the day. I really enjoyed the process and trying to find what worked best as I went along. The readers not only helped with motivation to write, but in giving me direction and tying up loose ends.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
I’m married to a Swede, so I’m a little biased. Eric Northman all the way. In both SVM and TB, his character has the best back story, layer upon layer of character development and he’s effing hot. Aside from the Viking, I love Lafayette and the humor he brings to Bon Temps.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
I’m not actually sure. As far as SVM, I think it might have been something by Wylis. Her stories are not long, but they pack a lot in the small package. She likes to take our beloved SVM characters to new and interesting places and it’s a wonderful rollercoaster ride for a reader.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
I usually am the person asking the questions at my job, so this is actually a hard question for me to answer. However, I’m game, so I want to end with one. A game of M/F/K.
Question: Marry, f*ck or kill? The following TB characters: Bill Compton, Alcide Herveaux, and Eric Northman.
Answer: Marry Eric, F*ck Alcide and Kill Bill. I’ll marry Eric because then I’d have an all access pass to the Gracious Plenty, fuck Alcide because he’d be an animal in bed and the cuddling would be nice afterward, and kill Bill because he sucks at being undead and it has a nice ring to it.

The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I’ve been “officially” writing things down on “paper” for a few years. But, honestly, I’ve been writing in my head all my life. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been imagining how I would change or continue my favorite stories if I was the one in charge. My family lived well out in the country, and I would spend hours in the woods “acting” out the stories in my head. Needless to say, Princess Leia was more of a badass in my “version,” and she got together with Han Solo much sooner. Even I couldn’t imagine Ellen Ripley (from the Alien movies) as being much stronger, but I still produced stories for her in my mind. I pretty much “wrote” tons of “fanfiction” in my head—even before I knew it existed in an organized form. I started doing the same kind of “writing” with True Blood, but there came a day when I finally typed something, and then I just kept writing and writing and writing.
As far as “what inspired” me goes, I’m not sure if I have an inspiration—per se. Letting my imagination move me to new worlds has always been more of a compulsion—a need. And now that I’m actually writing things down, it’s an even more vital part of me.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
Both! It depends on the story. But with Come Back to Me, I had a premise, a beginning point, and an ending point. And then I outlined moments that I knew needed to occur in between. When those moments came to me, I listed them, and then the story formed around those scenes. For Come Back to Me, I wrote from beginning to end and let most of the narrative just “happen” as I moved from one outlined moment to the next.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Eric is my favorite in both the show and in the books. I think his character is amazingly complex—and hot. In general, I love the inherent tragedy of the vampire—losing everything and outliving everyone (who’s not a vampire too). But Eric evolves in a way that Bill never does. And Eric keeps his joie de vivre. Moreover, I love the “possibilities” in his relationship with Sookie, so that has made me like her too—at least sometimes (when I’m not pissed at her for doing something truly head-scratching). Pam is next on my list (especially on the show). I love her snark! Plus, I want to “be” her, which is always the mark of a great character.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Wow—that’s hard to remember, but I do recall the first “long” story I ever finished. It was At Second Glance by sawyersmine.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Dang! This one is difficult, which means that it’s story time. I’ll try to write my way to a good question:
Kat walked along the beach, looking into the blue waves of the Pacific Ocean. She lamented—for the millionth time—that such beautiful water had to be so damned cold in the part of California where she lived. Otherwise, she would have been spending the 90-degree day in the surf.
Kat was well aware that many gazes were landing on her slender body. Oh—there were “pockets” that her snarky gay friend told her needed to be “toned,” but for someone closer to forty than thirty, she felt pretty proud of the shape she was in. A little pot belly and a little “cottage cheese” on the thighs weren’t going to prevent her from getting into a bikini!
However, most of the people on the beach were not looking at Kat’s body to ogle it. They were scrutinizing her out of concern. She was—as far as she could tell—the “whitest” person on the beach, and the sun was reflecting off of her skin to the point that it was likely blinding to anyone not wearing sunglasses.
That day—like every day she spent at the beach—many strangers had offered her sunscreen for fear that her skin would burn and blister. She couldn’t help but to wonder if all those people who were “concerned” about her welfare were already blind (even before the pallor of her skin did its work). After all, she was not burning. She wasn’t even pink. Indeed—as always—she’d carefully applied her own waterproof sunscreen several times throughout the day. And she was more than capable of taking care of her own body—thank you very much!
Therefore, when she heard a deep voice from behind her as she stopped to fiddle with her iPod, she was a little frustrated.
“Would you like to borrow some sunscreen?” the voice asked.
Kat shook her head and was going to keep walking, but something about the voice sounded familiar, so she glanced toward the sound.
“Jesus Christ!” Kat exclaimed, knowing that her mother would look at her sternly if she heard her taking the Lord’s name in vain. But it couldn’t be helped! The voice had belonged to Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd! The Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd! As in Eric Northman!
He tipped down his sunglasses, and she suddenly felt herself being pierced by blue eyes. However, before her mind fell all the way into the gutter, she stopped herself from thinking about what else of his she’d like to be pierced with. She felt her skin getting a bit flushed as his eyes examined her.
“I didn’t think it was possible that I’d see anyone whiter than me today,” he said with a smirk. “My job calls for me to avoid getting any color; however, I couldn’t resist the,” he paused, looking back into Kat’s eyes, “scenery.”
“Vampires generally don’t have tans—then?” Kat sassed, trying to sound cool and composed, even as her face grew warmer.
“You recognize me,” he observed.
“Yes,” she answered.
“And?” he challenged.
“And?” she challenged right back.

“You’re getting a little pink from the sun,” he said, taking in her blush and grinning like the devil himself. “So—would you like to borrow some sunscreen?” he asked again.
This time she nodded. “Sure. I’ll even let you get my back.”
Okay—so there’s my question and my answer. J
Many thanks to Sephrenia and ALL the Fangreaders! I’m so proud to have been nominated.

“In The Dark”
The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
I’d have to say my original inspiration was impatience. I found SVM when my sister-in-law recommended True Blood while it was still in its first season. I was way behind the learning curve. All I knew was the next SVM book (I believe I was waiting for Dead and Gone, at the time) and the next season of True Blood were both still months away and I needed more. More. More. More. I’d never heard of Fan-Fiction until a Google search sent me to http://truebloodwiki.wetpaint.com/
At the time, there were dozens of options for feeding my addiction. I read the shorter stories first, and devoured everything in a binge. When I was finished, I had an idea or two of my own, and still had to find something to do to fill my time until SVM/TB was fresh again… hence the birth of my personal monster.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?Yes, my stories have a plan, a loose framework I intend to follow, but the majority of what I write has a more organic development.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?Hands down, Eric Northman. I love his calm demeanor, his loyalty, his humor. He’s a bad boy with values. He has conflict and flaws, but has his priorities. He really is a beautiful character, not just as Alexander Skarsgard portrays him, but as Pam’s Maker and Sookie’s love interest.
Other than Eric, the characters I find myself most interested in are the ones who don’t get a lot of press. I want to know more about them, their motivations, their back-stories. I want to know what their motivation was to do/say ‘______’ and I’m always waiting for my next ‘encounter’ with them.

4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?I tried to think back that far, but I’m at a loss. I concentrated on Eric/Sookie stories. I avoided All Human stories. I preferred ‘R’ and ‘NC17’ ratings… But none of that really mattered, because I eventually read all of them, I think. I remember a heated internal debate over whether to read Let Love In or Late first. Both of them had plenty of chapters. To this day, I’m still torn between those two stories as my favorite, and they’re the first stories I remember reading.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been? I’m actually still waiting for my readers or betas to ask several questions, but since they’re story related questions, I’m not saying.

The Interview
  1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
What inspired me to write fanfiction was reading fanfiction. I love so many of the stories I have read. A lot are as good, or better, than published novels, yet no one makes any money doing this; it's entirely a labor of love. I have some talent for writing, so I thought the best way to repay all the enjoyment I got out of reading was to contribute something in return. I started writing fanfic about a year ago.

2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I write stories with the purpose of reaching the happy ending, so in that sense, yes, the endings are predetermined. I don't start writing with the entire plot laid out from start to finish. I tend to begin with the setting, and the characters, and an immediate problem. By the time I work through that, the broad strokes of a story are pretty clear in my head. The mystery elements are more planned. I know who is the culprit and what their motives are before I begin. Most of the specifics happen organically along the way.

3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
My favorite character on True Blood is Jane Bodehouse. Her dialog during the Maurella birthing scene last season totally captures how I feel about the show. http://youtu.be/Qps9vzj71zc?t=1m12s
My favorite character from the books is Sookie, of course. I like Eric and Pam. Among the less prominent characters, Kevin and Kenya, Bubba, and Bellenos.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
Like a lot of others, it was Let Love In by Terri Botta.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been?
Q: Do you know any secret handshakes?
A: No, but I will use practically any excuse to go for a high-five. This is sometimes awkward since the convention has shifted to the fist-bump. In these instances, I cope by proclaiming victory in a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors that no one knew we were playing.

“Precious Love”

The Interview
1. What inspired you to write and how long have you been writing?
My inspiration was initially my son. When he was little, we would spend time a Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. For a three year old, going from doctor to doctor could be as entertaining as watching grass grow. Though the hospital does try to entertain the children, I would entertain him by inventing stories that we would keep going through the course of the day.
When I started reading fanfiction, he reminded me that I used to make up the “best stories”, in his opinion and suggested I try my hand at the genre. So this obsession (and that’s what it is) can be blamed completely on him.
Now my inspiration comes from my beta team, my partner in crime (my cheerleader and storyline critic) as well as my readers. Any time I think my muse has left me, they are there to bring me back on point. I would be nothing without them.
I’ve been writing for four years now. My first story was Deathly Fashion Sense that I started in the summer of 2009. Hopefully my writing has improved over time.
2. Do you have a plan for the end of your story or do you make it up as you go along?
I usually have a very solid plan for my stories when I begin them. But then my muse takes over or a character starts popping out and wants to be heard and suddenly the story is going in a direction I never could have possibly imagined. One of my stories has taken on a life of it’s own (okay several). I know where they will end up. The question is, where will the journey take us before we end up there? I will tell you that I have several notebooks of outlines that have had to be re-written in the last few years. Funny how the characters develop without you realizing it.
3. Who are your favorite SVM/TB characters and why?
Is it cliché to say, Eric? Goodness do I love him!! Who couldn’t love Eric? Even when he’s being bad, we still love him. But I also love Sookie and Pam. I can relate to Pam’s snarky ways in the books and in the show. Though some of the things Sookie does makes me want to pull my hair out. I have a little secret I’d like to confess, I haven’t read the books past nine (Dead and Gone) I know, but I just…well, I haven’t and I’m really nervous about the last story. I hope CH gives us a happy ending with the final installment, but I’m not too sure she will.
As for TB – who couldn’t love Russell Edgington? How AB developed that character was a laugh riot! I will miss him.
4. What was the first fan fiction story that you read?
The first fan fiction I read was Late by Morgaine Swann.
5. What question would you like to be asked and never have been? (please include Answer).
Now this is a hard one. I would say, Does my family and friends know I write and do they read my stories? The answer: Yes, most, if not all my family and friends know I write. Do they read it? Well, that’s another story. Some of the people I know read my stories but I don’t think my husband does but I know some of his friends have checked out my site (and even kidded him on my author’s name). Oh, and if I catch my sixteen year old reading most of my stories, he and I will be having a discussion. I don’t write my stories for children. With that being said, many of my friends read one of my stories or another. I write really different stories from each other so I think there is a little something for everyone. Actually my mother-in-law wanted to read one of my stories but she blushed when I had her watch True Blood with me, so I think we are going to steer her away from An Elegant Death and Precious Love. I think she would like Where were you, though.

Godric Discovers the Fangies …

As the fandom clamours to see the nominated fanfics, we go to Shreveport to see Eric Northman's progeny and maker. . .

“Godric discovers The Fangies”

by Meridian

Godric entered his child's bar, Fangtasia, and released a long-suffering sigh. He was proud of his progeny, Eric, for he had done extremely well for himself, but seriously, a fangbanger bar? He shook his head in mild bemusement, although he wasn't exactly surprised. Of course his tall, blond Viking of a child would attract fangbangers. At least it provided meals on heels...assuming one could get past the odor of all the chemicals these particular humans were prone to stuffing into their writhing bodies.

He'd been in the area for less than a week, choosing to spend his unwanted vacation (that his second, Isabel, had all-but bullied him into taking) with his son and Eric's own child, Pamela.

Godric smirked as he slid into the booth hidden in the darkest corner of the establishment. It was the seating most preferred by both his child and his child's child . Pam, as she preferred to be called, was a riot. Eric could not have chosen a better female child to accompany him on his voyage through eternity. She was snippy, bitchy, manipulative, greedy, sarcastic, devious, and loyal to a fault. Easily subject to abject boredom, she always had her lovely, cold, well-manicured hand in some sort of project.

One of the look-alike waitresses approached his booth, and placed a warmed bottle of Royalty Blended in front of him, and left. It hadn't taken the human waitresses long to realize that Godric wanted nothing to do with them beyond their serving abilities. He had no time for the games that humans played, although they could be quite humorous when observed from the sidelines.

This booth, in particular the location of said booth, was one of the few things he actually appreciated in this bar pulsing with desperation and desire. From his position, he could easily survey the "vermin", as Pam so aptly described the repeat patrons of the club. Their antics were often hilarious, as were their attempts to attract a vampire, any vampire, onto their smelly bodies for the night.

Although he wasn't as disdainful of these humans as his grandchild was, still, it was hard not to view them all with wry contempt. He knew well the trials and hardships that vampires had to endure before the Great Reveal, and thought these humans even more pathetic for throwing themselves en masse at creatures well-suited to ensuring their painful demise.

He shook his head at the utter absurdity of the situation, and settled himself into the comfortable leather booth. A piece of paper peeping out from behind the cushion caught his attention. Bored, he pulled the paper out, and discovered that it was an old program for some sort of Award ceremony.

He smirked - vampires did love their pomp and circumstance, and Pam was no different. He vaguely recognized the name, "The Fangies", and remembered Pam being in a biting tizzy about something along those lines last year. He also remembered being rather relieved that Eric was the one having to deal with her. If his remarkable memory served, some strange, drunk and drug-addled human had disrupted the whole thing somehow.

He wearily thumbed through the program between sips of his Blended. Soon it dawned on him that the whole thing made no sense. While he was vaguely familiar with the works of a writer named Charlaine Harris and some tool named Allan Ball who was known for introducing the most impressive, fantastic, well-beloved character in the universe and subsequently killing him off for no good reason whatsoever, he himself had little time for such forms of entertainment.

It seemed he might should investigate this "fanfic" thing much more closely in the future, however. Could this genre of writing cause a security risk? Are these "fic writers" trustworthy? What was their agenda? What did they want? Were they glorified fangbangers who just happened to have a bit more self-respect than the loathsome creatures writhing on the dance floor not twenty feet away? Or were they part-time geniuses hell bent on bettering their small worlds in any way they could? Were they artists, or deviants?

And what was with these odd Award categories? "The Baby Jessica Award ~ Best Fanfic for a New Author" He knew of a young, recently turned vampire named Jessica...perhaps that was the connection? Humm...he pondered. Well, if a writer were a novice at the art, she or he could be considered a "baby", so...yes, he could somewhat understand that Award name.

"The Longshadow Award ~ Best One-Shot Fic"? Godric hissed quietly. Why in the world would anyone want to immortalize that thieving bastard!? At least he hadn't been around long, and had met his end accordingly. And...what in the world is a "one-shot"? It had, in fact, only taken one shot (via a stake) to kill that useless miscreant, but what did that have to do with a writer of this "fanfic"?

Godric sensed a mystery afoot. He read on.

"The Newlin Award ~ Best All Human Fic"!? NEWLIN? What the hell? Every vampire worth rising knew of that evil little blood-bag bitch boy. Oh. Ok, that almost made sense...he was, indeed, all human even if he had no humanity left.

Huh...he sincerely respected Mr. Cataliades, so it was appropriate that the "Mr Cataliades Award ~ For Best Series" would be named in his honor, although he did question the sanity in allowing a fairy, of all species, to present it. Each to their own, he though magnanimously.

The Ancient Pythoness Award... He wondered if the Ancient One knew of this Award given in her honor, then scoffed. Of course she did, she saw everything. And it would make sense to gift an Award for an older work that stood the test of time.

Who was Lafayette Reynolds and what had he done to merit an Award given in his honor? And...what is an "alternate universe"? "The Lafayette Reynolds Award ~ Best Alternate Universe Fic" would definitely qualify as a mystery.

Godric sighed. He hated a mystery - they always drove him insane until he solved them. He read on.

"The Jason Stackhouse Award" for a comedy fic was well designated, he thought with a grimace. That boy, from what he had been told by Eric, was a chaotic tornado just waiting to touch down into a soon-to-be unfortunate situation. No one could quite believe Sookie, dear, sweet, bright, witty, intelligent Sookie, could be in any way related to that brother of hers. Pam swore Jason was switched at birth by goblins.

"The Bill Compton Award ~ Best Dark/Angst Fic"...self-explanatory. Bill fucking Compton. If Godric never head that name again, it would be too soon. Naturally a dark, angst fic Award category should be named for him, although Godric did wonder why in the world people writing fiction would freely choose to write of dark, depression subject matter. It's fiction, he thought. People had the freedom to create happiness, yet chose to create dark drama instead?

He shook his head. The choices humans made truly made no sense to him sometimes.

Ah! There was an Award in his own progeny's name! "The Eric Northman Award ~ Best Epic Fic" How appropriate! Yes, his Eric was epic indeed! These fics, he wanted to imagine, would be filled with great deeds and impressive battles and intriguing journeys.

"The Sookie Stackhouse Award ~ Best Romance" How very befitting of his child's beloved fairy. Although he himself had neither time nor inclination for romance, he could well imagine his child's mate would adore having such a thing named for her.

He laughed, thinking how proud Eric must surely be with having Awards named for both himself and his beloved. Despite his amazing intelligence and pragmatic outlook, Eric could be such a vain peacock sometimes.

"The Adele Stackhouse Award for Reader's Choice"...readers were allowed to nominate their own choice? Well, that was incredibly democratic, he thought.

Ah, naturally Pam would have an Award named for herself. He snickered. He could well imagine her cold, hard hands involved in choosing the winners of that Award.

A while later, just as Godric was thinking of leaving, Pam decided to join him. Godric allowed her to stand near his table awaiting his attention for several long minutes. He purposefully ignored her because he knew exactly how much it annoyed her, and she did love being annoyed.

Finally he took pity on her and acknowledged her presence.

"What has you in such a contemplative mood tonight, GrandMaker?" Pam gestured toward the seat across from him, and he nodded permission for her to sit.

"It seems you have been busy, my GrandChild. Tell me more about these Fangie Awards." Godric gestured toward the program in his hands.

Pam preened. The Fangie Awards was her baby from top to bottom. Barring drunk celebrities, this year's Awards were bound to let her shine, erm, go quite well! Well, they would as soon as she could figure out what in the world was up with that doctor who apparently had no other name.

"Oh, you've got last year's program! This year's Awards will go even better," she exclaimed, truly excited to tell her esteemed GrandMaker about her favorite project.

"If you'll excuse me for a moment, I'll collect information about this year's Awards!" In a blink, she was gone.

Godric sighed. Bitchy Pam was at least entertaining. Excited Pam...a different story altogether. He flagged a waitress for another Blended. It was going to be a long night.

All too soon Pam returned laden with reams of paper filled with notes, ideas, schedules, photos, memos, and sample programs.

This seemed like a great occasion to practice his downtime, he thought, as Pam prattled on about some doctor. Doctor who, he had no idea. Human doctors meant nothing to him.

Suddenly his attention was captured by the name "Callisto".

"Excuse me, Pam, but why did you just mention Callisto? I thought we were well rid of all maenads by now?"

Pam laughed evilly. "Yes, Maker of my Maker, we are finally rid of those evil beasts, but remember, while they were rather destructive, they also encouraged a deliciously fun time. So, in her honor, I've decided to add another category to the Awards: "The Callisto Award ~ Best Written Erotic Fanfic", and we have some very," she purred, "interesting submissions this year."

"Ahh," Godric replied, his eyes gleaming. He could write a thing or three about erotic activities. "Are there any other new categories of interest?"

"Oh, yes," Pam exclaimed. "I have introduced quite a few!" She shuffled through her notes with a self-important air. Godric rolled his eyes and sipped his tepid Blended.

"Here we go!" Pam waved a sheet of paper around as if she were waving off flies or fangbangers.

"Let's see... Ok, because of the furor last year over the use of Newlin's name, we've changed that Award to "The Hoyt Fortenberry Award ~ Best All Human Fanfic."

"And who is this vaulted Hoyt Fortenberry?"

"He's a mediocre but harmless oaf who trails around our Jessica like a moose in heat. He is completely human, however, hence the Award name."

Godric nodded, not too terribly interested, but motioned for Pam to continue. With any luck, he might be able to salvage this night yet.

"Do you remember me telling you about that disgusting little prick, Bill Compton, bragging to some of the vermin about sexcapades with his Maker, Lorena?" Without waiting for his response, she happily continued. ""The Lorena Ball Award ~ Best Oh My God Sex Scene Fanfic" was created to praise a fic with an especially spectacular sex scene." Pam wiggled in her seat, extremely proud of herself for creating this Award.

Her GrandMaker smirked. Young vampire lust was legendary. True, his interest was vaguely piqued, but he'd never hear the end of it if he told Pam.

"Last year I made a horrid omission. Two of them, actually." Godric quirked his brow. Pam never admitted any sort of failure. "I completely forgot the most important categories!" She waved her hands near her eyes, trying to stall the gathering red tears from falling. "To remedy this unconscionable omission, I created "The Russell Edgington Award ~ Best Villain in a Fanfic" and "The Nan Flanagan Award ~ Best Villainess in a Fanfic" Awards."

She waited expectantly for Godric's enthusiastic approval. A few moments later, she started tapping her nails, certain his appreciation would come just any second. Finally, he stated quite blandly, "Well, it is good that you have rectified this omission of yours. Are there any other new Awards?"

Miffed, Pam scanned her notes, then snapped her fingers for a Royalty Blended.

"I've added "The Bubba Award ~ Most Original Plot for a Fanfic", "The Preston Pardloe Award ~ Best Mystery Fanfic", "The Charles Twining Award ~ Best Action Fanfic", and "The Alcide Herveaux Award ~ Best Were Fanfic", which are all fairly self-explanatory."

Godric chuckled. If he'd known that irritating her would have hurried this along, he'd have done so earlier. Later he might ask her for more information regarding the kinds of action these "fic writers" portrayed in their stories, but not now. He also wandered why in seven hells anyone would write a story mainly featuring Weres. They were a smelly, ill-tempered lot, although some could be quite loyal...like a dog. He struggled not to snort.

Pam continued. "It was suggested that I create "The Dr Ludwig Award ~ Best Novella/ Novelette Length Fanfic" to appease the small doctor, and so I did. Reluctantly."

This time Godric didn't bother holding in his reaction, which helped thaw the still-miffed Pam.

In a somewhat better mood, she added, " The Ginger Award ~ Best Beta"...I created that one to honor the lovely, hard-working people who help the writers so much." Pam's dreamy expression made Godric wonder if Pam considered herself a "writer" who was "helped" by one of these Beta persons. He just about bet Pam could describe in lurid dental exactly how a Beta tasted.

Recalling her surroundings, Pam unnecessarily cleared her throat and quickly described the next Award.

""The The Fangtasia Award ~ Best SVM/True Blood Fan Site" is new, too. Its mission is to provide recognition for fan-run websites which give us the latest fandom news, pics, updates, and more. Apparently these websites are highly valued by both writers and readers of fanfics."

Godric nodded encouragingly. Pam had indeed given a lot of thought and effort to these Awards, and she did deserve recognition for her work, even if the whole concept of "fanfic" eluded him.

He considered his words for a few moments and delighted in teasing his GrandChild by making her wait.

Finally relenting, Godric spoke.

"I am very proud of you, Pamela. You have obviously put much hard work and thought into these Awards of yours. While I have no prior knowledge of this form of written art, I am curious about the ceremony itself. Would you happen to have a spare ticket handy for your 2000-year-old GrandMaker?"

For the first time in her centuries of undeath, Pam squeeee'd. Loud.

Many thanks to Meridian for writing such a fantastic promotional fic for the Fangreaders Awards .Be sure to show some love by leaving her a review.
